How Jack’s initiative is benefiting regional communities. Born and raised in the heart of Donnybrook, John “Jack” Cross has always believed that strong communities are built by the people who fight for them. As one of the former owners of Delta Ag, Jack spent years working alongside regional Australians, witnessing firsthand the resilience, pride, and spirit that keep country towns alive. But he also saw something troubling — local clubs, organisations, and community groups were facing an increasingly uncertain financial future.Rather than stand by and watch regional communities slowly lose the heartbeat that holds them together, Jack set out to create something bigger than a short-term fix. He envisioned a sustainable solution — one that would empower communities, support local organisations, and help country towns not just survive, but thrive for generations to come. That search led him to Geraldton-based co-operative GOPP and its administration company OPPWA, where he began discussions with CEO Wendy Norris about how a similar model could work in the South. Together, they developed the concept that would become South West Organised Purchasing Power (SWOPP). Driven by his deep connection to regional Australia and a genuine commitment to the people who call it home, Jack has made it his mission to ensure local communities continue to grow, connect, and prosper. SWOPP is more than an initiative — it’s a movement built on the belief that when communities are supported, everyone wins.
